Criteria for naturalness in conceptual spaces

چکیده
Abstract Conceptual spaces are a frequently applied framework for representing concepts. One of its central aims is to find criteria what makes concept natural. A prominent demand that natural concepts cover convex regions in conceptual spaces. The first aim this paper analyse the convexity thesis and arguments have been advanced favour or against it. Based on this, I argue most supporting focus single-domain (e.g., colours, smells, shapes). Unfortunately, these not primary examples Building observation, second develop multi-domain representation such has two main aspects: features associated with probabilistic correlation pattern which captures. spaces, together considerations, provide helpful approach aspects. With respect feature representation, existence characteristic (i.e., apples specific taste) essential. Moreover, capture peaks distribution over complex They carve up nature at joints, is, areas no low density. This last aspect shown be closely related demand.

Conceptual Spaces in ViCoS
We describe ViCoS, a tool for constructing and visualising conceptual spaces in the area of language documentation. ViCoS allows users to enrich existing lexical information about the words of a language with conceptual knowledge. Their work towards language-based, informal ontology building must be supported by easy-to-use workflows and supporting software, which we will demonstrate. 1 Researc...
متن کاملCreativity in Conceptual Spaces
The main aim of this paper is contributing to what in the last few years has been known as computational creativity. This will be done by showing the relevance of a particular mathematical representation of Gärdenfors’s conceptual spaces to the problem of modelling a phenomenon which plays a central role in producing novel and fruitful representations of perceptual patterns: analogy.
متن کاملGrid Cells for Conceptual Spaces?
"Grid cells" encode an animal's location and direction of movement in 2D physical environments via regularly repeating receptive fields. Constantinescu et al. (2016) report the first evidence of grid cells for 2D conceptual spaces. The work has exciting implications for mental representation and shows how detailed neural-coding hypotheses can be tested with bulk population-activity measures.
متن کاملConceptual Spaces for Data Descriptions
Cognitively adequate information representations have a great potential to improve interactions between systems and users. They are able to account for a specific user’s personal understanding, knowledge and preferences. To utilize this capacity for the personalization of services, we need to represent information on a level that corresponds to human cognition. In this paper, we show how to gen...
متن کاملConstraint Programming for Multi-criteria Conceptual Clustering
A conceptual clustering is a set of formal concepts (i.e., closed itemsets) that defines a partition of a set of transactions. Finding a conceptual clustering is an NP-complete problem for which Constraint Programming (CP) and Integer Linear Programming (ILP) approaches have been recently proposed. We introduce new CP models to solve this problem: a pure CP model that uses set constraints, and ...
